With his new life beginning when Iditarod Musher Libby Riddles finds him at the Nome dog pound, Danger the extremely cool dog yard cat tells us his story of living up in Nome with Libby and her dogs, and how he saved the day and earned the respect of his canine comrades. This is a great read. I like it because the art is engaging. While reading it, one can point out to the kids the sleeping Danger and ask the young listeners if they think this all happened, or if Danger is dreaming it, and we get to see the cute nuances of a cat putting his paw in the fishbowl there there is a little dog in SCUBA gear, and other aspects of Libby’s home that make people smile. Children pick up with the beat and after several readings, start bouncing along with me and even snapping their fingers and singing along while it is being read. The art is as engaging as the prose, which says a lot about the book.
